Motivational Monday: Start to Be Great

“You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.”

For three years, I put off creating my demo reel because I was terrified (and still am) of public speaking.

I still remember the day I filmed my demo, I had a fever, and a perfect excuse to cancel the shoot. The purpose of my reel was to apply for a competitive internship with ABC7’s entertainment department. I knew I had to do it and I really wanted to I prove to myself I could do public speaking.

And that year, I accomplished both goals.

I’ve had many times in my life where I questioned whether or not I was good enough at goals I wanted to pursue.

And to be completely honest, many times the answer was no. Knowing that I didn’t have the natural talent to pursue my dreams scared me and I felt like I was behind those who were talented. I held myself back.

Many times we struggle with starting something we are so passionate about because we are scared to fail. It’s common. A mass majority of people can relate to this feeling, however, it is a feeling that can change.

I realized I would have to push my limit, forcing me to do things I wasn’t comfortable with. I would have to do things that scared me, and realize failure may occur. Failure may happen many times before success finds its way to me. But if I could accept that failure was part of the process, than it wouldn’t paralyze me.

Your ability to become great doesn’t exist in a place of comfort, it exist in a place outside your comfort zone.

Failure may not be comfortable to you, but I always feel it’s God’s way of testing whether you really want something or not. Be patient with yourself and don’t give up on yourself. Pursue your ambition. Life is too short not to.

Good luck on the beginning of something great. Have a Happy Monday!
